Transcending Transcendentalism

  • Colonial Williamsburg Williamsburg, VA United States (map)

Transcendentalism has been defined as “a philosophical movement that developed in the late 1820s and 1830s in the eastern United States, arising as a reaction to and protest against the general state of intellectualism and spirituality at the time. The doctrine of the Unitarian church as taught at Harvard Divinity School was of particular interest.” Can anything so remote and confined to past circumstance possibly be of use to us today? This informal conversation will be dedicated to drawing Transcendentalism wholly into the present, to “Transcending Transcendentalism.”
